Love all the feedback, guys! You've convinced me!

bokeasmowl - I have a 2004 EZGO TXT Shuttle 2x2

I will be taking it in to get the steering checked out before I lift it. This is one thing that I'd rather have someone else do.

Noles, What is your steering issue? pics? Keep in mind that when you install a lift in the front you may have to re adjust your front steering connecting arm/rod. If you pay somebody now to work on your steering it may be a waist of money unless somthing is broke. Working on steering issues isnt that difficult either. What are mechanical skills?

At best, I can only guess, but I say someplace in the mid to upper teens.

I do know that a forum member that has 22" tire whose max inflation pressure is 11 PSI only get 19 MPH when he should get 22.7 MPH mathematically. That is a 19.5% speed loss.

Another member has tires with an 8 PSI max and tops out at about 15 MPH when he ought t be getting in the mid 20's.

On the other hand, my cart's speed went from 24 MPH at 36V to 28.5 MPH at 42V, which is exactly what the number crunching said it would. The max inflation pressure on my tires is 22 PSI.

Basically, if I needed tires to drive through deep mud or deep sand, and still wanted to drive at reasonably high speeds on hard level ground, I'd look for tires with the highest Max pressure with the needed tread pattern.

Also, if your tires are noisy on a hard surface, you are loosing speed.
Essentially, energy that ought be moving your cart faster, is being converted into sound energy.

The steering is very loose. Driving it the last few weeks feels like its gottena little worse. The tires look like they wobble as well and the ride is bumpy.

The problem I have is diagnosing the problem. My mechanical skills aren't great, but I can follow directions well enough to get something done. I just don't know what's wrong.

Bushings? Is everything tight under there? I would secure cart then jack up the front and determine what is loose and if possible tighten it up. Another point, when you put your lift in this should tighten it up also.

Everything seemed tight when I first got under the cart a few weeks ago. I'll check again since its been getting looser.

I was hoping adding the lift would tighten everything up.

One question: There's a Battery Source here in Tallahassee that will sell 22" tires, wheels, and a 4" lift at a pretty good price. Will the 4" lift (which i'm guessing is an Econo lift) still fix my steering issue?

Probably not! your steering issue can be several things, most likely its in the rack and pinion area if there is play from side to side. could be bushings, could be bent parts, with out looking, its only a guess!
