Another one that is very good is Plum Quick. Here is a link to their website. Give them a call. They can also modify your stock motor for better performance.

Re: 1981 big azz cart need lil help and info
That thing is BAD AZZ!!! You definetly need an upgraded motor for those big tires. Any of the motor rebuilders should be able to get you more torque to turn those beasts. A full solid state upgrade to 48 volts would be awesome on that cart, but not cheap. Your cart would be a great candidate for a D&D motor systems 4:2A "Stealth Stalker" torque motor if you were to go to a 48 volt solid state system.
Did you do all the fabrication on this cart? How much of a lift does it have? |

Re: 1981 big azz cart need lil help and info
if i had to guess 20-25 inches of lift ... with the old worn out motor it would go about 18 mph for around 10 miles total not all at one time of course.... far as the build its kinda a hybrid with yamaha parts and other stuff.... as far as 48 volt upgrade point me in right direction im very new to the eletric engine stuff

Re: 1981 big azz cart need lil help and info
It is fairly simple. Your cart uses 6 - 6 volt batteries in series to create a 36 volt battery pack. A 48 volt uses 6 - 8 volt batteries in series for a 48 volt pack. The problem is that your cart uses 5 solenoids for speed control. Depending on your throttle position the electricity flows through the corresponding solenoid to feed the motor the right amount of juice for that speed. The solenoids and other electric parts are only designed to handle 36 volts, so you would have to gut out all of the old wiring, solenoids, forward reverse switch, and throttle assembly. You the need to fab a new throttle box (Curtis PB-6 potentiometer), install a new solid state motor controller (basically a sealed box that controls the motors speed), heavy duty forward reverse swithch, and new heavy duty (I prefer #2 gauge) battery cables along with 6 new 8 volt batteries. This is not a cheap upgrade. If you shop careful, and make your own battery cables, you will probably spend $1000.00 without batteries. This upgrade however is night and day difference from what you have. Then you can add a high torque motor to turn those huge tires. I just completed this upgrade on my 1991 Club Car DS. I have not installed the new motor yet (still deciding on which one). I would think you could easily reach 25 to 30 mph with those tires and see an 80% gain in torque. If you decide to do this check the forum for "Solid State Upgrade" or start a new thread for help. There are plenty of very smart people here to help you. Feel free to PM me if you need any advice.
If you don't want to spend this kind of money just give one of the mentioned motor rebuilders a call and they can help you decide on the best rebuild for your application. Just Google "Plum Quick", or "D & D Motor Systems", or "Electrical Motor Products" (EMP). |
