New G16 build- Vtwin and long travel install
Found a 1997 G16 for $250 locally on craigslist. Had been sitting for 5 years behind a guys shed. Motor was there with good compression but lots of other parts missing.
sold the motor, carb, airbox and gain $180 back. Have the rims and tires for sale at $65 and they might sell. So good chance that could get the cart for free. Will attach a picture of the cart when I bought it if I can find the pictures. Sold my wifes G1 golf cart with a promise that she will get my G9. bought a whole bunch of stuff. Used 20hp briggs off local member. Jakes long travel, clutch, rev kit, header from Carts plus Set of 22/10/10 Duro Deserts with steel rims off ebay for $220 shipped. -perhaps custom rims will come in a couple of months. However when I got the motor it had been dropped on both sides of the motor . unfortunately no shipping insurance on the motor probably means we need to fix it ourselves. I had been looking for a v twin horizontal shaft motor for months and could not find one under $750 so I am reluctant to ship it back and buy a new motor for $1300 with shipping so I want to show pictures of how to fit a briggs into a G16. Cant find any pictures so I will attempt to be the one to document this. I already did a test fit and it looks like you only need to file out two holes and the motor will bolt to the stock motor mount plates. I think I am going to use the outside set of holes on the briggs. - the ones with no threads Wont know till I get the clutch in a couple of days how much to cut the spacer for the clutch. If anyone knows ahead of time I would appreciate the knowledge. Also wont know what belt to order until I get it finalized on the bolt down. will post some pictures later on as have to run right now. I will also post pictures of my first attempt at lifting the rear of the cart with air shocks and a drop panhard bracket. |

I threw the rear body on to get a idea of what it looks like right now. I already have it partially dissembled. The rear body isn't that bad and I might be able to sand it, putty it and paint it. For the front I am thinking that it will just be easier to pay $175 for a new front cowl.

Ok now a couple of pics of the motor. 1st is a pic of the motor as it arrived. notice the oil filter off to the side of the motor. then notice the oil drain pipe and starter cable.
I was able to already pull the piece of the pipe out of the block with a EZout. now I just need to order a starter. |

Next we have a test fit of the 20hp motor in the cart. I have already installed air shocks in the rear and lowered the rear pan hard bar bracket. however, the air shocks leak so they might get pulled.
I need to take a picture to show how close the bolt holes on the stock motor brackets are to the motor. |

Did UPS do that to the motor?
When I ordered my 13hp Honda, the block was cracked. Right where it was cracked, there was a hole in the box that looked like it was from a forklift's fork. |

Also since I had a set of air shocks sitting in the garage I had to try and mount them up. I welded a piece of steel to drop the panhard 6" from stock. My welder really sucks . I am using a 110 MIG with flux core wire and it was spattering all over the place. I didn't have the pieces 100% clean which flux core really doesn't like. At least mine doesn't. I think I am going to cut it off and just use the Jakes piece when I get the kit.
Notice on the air shocks that the right doesn't pump up as much as the left. I have heard this mentioned before when you have one air fill location for both sides. Also it will be tough to control how high the suspension goes. Unloaded it will go pretty high. You almost need to have limiter straps on the rear suspension to manage the height. Then it will go lower as you add more weight. So I might yank them out and put the stock springs in along with the lift bracket from Jakes. At least until I can find some 19" center to center coil over shocks. |

Yeah UPS did that. Inside the box their are 4 separate impact marks. Even though it had Fragile stickers on it. the motor did need some more packing around it. water under the bridge.
