To lift or not to lift... Yamaha G22A
some of you know, been cleaning up and doing a Yamaha G22A.
It is down to a rolling chassis. Already talked with Plowman for performance upgrades (Going with New Primary Clutch and G22 Performance Kit) but need to decide IF I am going to lift and what tire size so that Don can build my clutches accordingly for best performance !! Do i want to put on a lift ? if i do it would be a simple 3" spindle lift, just for clearance and style. it is a golf cart and will be used 99% of the time on road, grass, and generally flat fields and such, no heavy off-roading or 4 wheeling. per my cheat sheet a stock G22A can do up to a 19" wheel combo, with a 3" lift can do up to a 20.5" wheel combo. was wanting to get more meat on the tires for a smoother comfortable ride vs low profile tires. seems 10" is a good median. If i stay stock: Option 1 is stay as it is with the Wanda 215/35-12 Tires on the Black Wheels (17.9" tall 8.5" wide combo which is close to typical stock golf cart wheel) Option 2 is go to a 19 wheel combo and put 215/40-12 All Terrain wheels on the Wheels i have, 18.8" tall 8.5 "wide but are just taller than what I have now same width. Steeleng Gator seems to be only all terrain option, several street tire options. Seems if you do a 10" wheel you can get either a 18" or 20" wheel !! If i go with a lift: would most likely do 20"-20.5" wheels, would try some 20x10x12 all terrain then if not happy go with 20x10x10 all terrain |

Re: To lift or not to lift... Yamaha G22A
I’m not a big fan of lifts for a couple reasons, they raise your center of gravity and a lot of them are poorly made. I understand if you’re going off road you might need one but for on road they’re not necessary. Look kind of cool but? Sometimes a lift is required to fit larger diameter tires. If you go with a 10” rim(wheel) go with a tire that’s 20” or 20.5 if that will fit the body for clearance. A 205/65-10 measures 20.49" tall for example. A tire with a street tread is going to be quieter and ride better than most knobby tires. The more sidewall you have the better your ride will be and as you increase overall tire diameter you will gain speed.

Can't answer your question about a lift since I run only on paved roads and so stock height with DOT tires works for me but I do have to compliment you on the extent to which you refurbish a cart. That chassis looks like it just rolled off the Yamaha line - beautiful!

why i am on the fence... going to be a cruiser, but i do volunteer at local shows, which requires me to run around on uneven grass surfaces. granted we have used stock rental carts without an issue ;) i wanted more meat as you noted for a smoother ride, why i was thinking of going to a 10" wheel looking at the 10" black panther and some 20x10x10 at, that requires a lift to fit :/ other option was keep rims now and put on 215/40-12 Gator AT Tires |

Here is my G29 with 3” RHOX lift and 22x11 tires on 10” wheels. I’m not a fan of bigger lifts. This setup is perfect for the farm and backwood trails we ride. I bought this cart 3 years ago with this setup already installed and it has been great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
