Charger wont charge.
I have a 2005 electric club car. 48 volt. When I plug the charger in, it comes on, I can hear it humming, but the amp needle doesn't move. It just lays on 0 amps. I used a volt meter and got 52 volts across the batteries when the charger is on them. Its like it's getting voltage, but no amps. I took the charger to the local repair shop and the guy told me it had a bad Pd Heatsink Asm, and charged me 88.00$. Got home and it still is not working. It has to be something in the cart.
Someone tested my 6 batteries and said 3 were bad. So it has 3 brand new batteries. That didn't fix it either. I have 2 autistic kids and ALL they want to do is ride. Someone at work recommended this site. I thought I would give it a try before begging someone to borrow a trailer, and a truck to pull it, and carrying the whole thing down there. Thanks or any help. |

Re: Charger wont charge.
Do you have anyone around that can loan you a charger to see if it works? I'd look at the main wiring for the charger circuit.
Have you had surges? Look-up the the OBC test procedures and see if it's working. |

Re: Charger wont charge.
Check to make sure the wires coming from the charge plug go to and have good tight connection to main battery positive. The black goes to the on board computer, it is less likely to be unhooked. The red one could have a bad connection pull firmly on it. It should hold. If batteries were changed it may have dropped down and not even hooked back up. All battery cables need to be clean and tight. BE SURE TO PUT CART IN TOW BEFORE WORKING WITH BATTERIES.

Re: Charger wont charge.
I would charge each battery individually with a normal 12v battery charger for 15minutes each. Then hook up your charger.

Re: Charger wont charge.
A sad side note to this story: My wife took the charger to our local battery source when this first happened. The man there said they didn't work on club car chargers, but he 'tested' ours and said it was bad. He sold us an Accusense charger for 300.00$. It didn't work either. Once again, the needle on the amp meter wouldn't budge. it just laid on 0.
I guess I'll charge each individual battery, and look up the test procedure. Thank you. |

Re: Charger wont charge.
You still have the same problem, the OBC current control circuit is bad and not allowing charger current to pass to the batteries.
The good news is that You would probably end up buying a DPI accusense to fix the problem anyway. You need to run a 10ga wire from the back of the charger receptacle negative directly to the pack negative. |

We are all guessing here. Can you post a good photo of your battery area.

Re: Charger wont charge.
Yes, but a somewhat educated guess...
1) Since the charger relay comes on, there is at least 32v from receptacle positive to sense wire. 2) Even if the positive wire from the charger receptacle was connected to the wrong battery, there would be current flowing. 3) Since the battery voltage goes up when the charger is connected, the negative connection is being limited by the OBC. |

Re: Charger wont charge.
If the OBC negative is not by-passed, no charger will work.
