Default Marathon Sticky Accel.

I have noticed that the wiper board on my 86 Marathon has some cathces in it. It will tend to catch when pressing the accelrator. Sometimes it will even hang in a pressed position and I have to pull the pedal up with my hand to get the cart to stop. Is there and easy fix for this?

Water crossings can have this affect.

It's a mechanical linkage.

Lubricate the linkage and use a dielectric grease at the appropriate areas on the wiper board movements.

Good luck.

It feels like it is catching on the actual contact pegs on the wiper board. Ill lube everything good, but if it is the actual contacts, is there anything I can do about it?

OK dude, you posted about putting 23 tires and asking about that affect. Your going to break it. If your wiper arm is hanging up because the resistors are worn? Your asking for a breakage at the least and or maybe a fire. You said you replaced some stuff. What did you replace?

I replaced everything except the motor. The solenoid is a 200A Constant/800A Peak, and the resistor is an upgraded unit with an aluminum housing and the large flat coils. The cables are all 4g. Everything else is a factory replacement piece.

On my '84 Marathon, I disassembled the wiper board, cleaned up all of the contacts on my bench grinder's wire wheel. When I reassembled it, I put a piece of 200 grit sandpaper between the wiper contact and the 1-2-3-4-5 contacts. I moved the wiper back and forth to sand down the face of the wiper contact so it would be in the same plane as the fixed contacts. I then turned the sandpaper upside down, and sanded the faces of the fixed contacts. My wiper board contacts are now as smooth as a baby's behind and don't hang up at all.

Hope this helps,

RLW

I would also use a file and put a 45 degree chamfer on all the pegs if there isn't any. Maybe only about 0.010 deep though, just enough to help the slide. I'm guessing what rlw did with the wire wheel kinda rounded the corners naturally.
