Default 6 volt vs. 8 volt

I have a '91 ezgo that is in perfect condition but is very slow. I read that increasing voltage will increase top end speed. If I replace the 6 6 volts with 6 8 volts, will that increase speed? Will my current charger work? Thanks

Yes, going from 36V to 48V will increase speed.

In addition to replacing the batteries, you'll also have to replace the controller, solenoid and charger.

Hold on a min. Blue! What do you have in your carts controller status? Is this a Resistor or a controller cart? Either way you have, your cart should go 12 mph. Are you wanting more than 12 mph? If your not getting the stock speed you need to clean it all up. Electrically speaking. Get the electrons flowing smoothly again first. Then after that you can decide on what direction you need to go. If your only getting 4mph and a ton of heat out of your cart from under your seat you can fix a lot of that stuff yourself easily.

Oops, I overlooked it being a resistor cart.
Gonk is right.

It would be a nice time to convert it to a controller cart.

1991.5 was the change year, so it could be either.

Late '88 model saw the first factory controller. Resistors were in play as late as '94 but mostly in industrial carts. All of this is based on IIRC, which admittedly is gettting worse by the minute....
