Brake pad install help
91 Marathon cart with the brake pads worn to the bone. I bought new brake pads for the cart. They appear to be exactly the same except for the new ones are thicker of course. I turned the adjustment screw all the way down and put the new pads on but I cannot get the drum to go back on. I have tried and tried but the new pads seem to be about 1/8 inch too thick. Is there something I am missing? Is there another adjustment I should be making? Below is a picture of the part box so I think I have the correct part.
Any help appreciated! |

Re: Brake pad install help
No the adjustment screw on the star wheel/nut in the brake itself.

Re: Brake pad install help
Owner's, Parts, and Service Manuals:
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...g-manuals.html Even if the manuals aren't the same as your cart, maybe the brakes are. If you used your shoes completely up, it's likely there is a ridge on the edge of the drum that can make installation more difficult. This ridge is the place between the edge of the drum and the place where the shoes are applied. I carefully removed mine with a dremmel, which makes the inside of the drum uniform diameter. With a ridge, you may have to adjust the shoes too "small", to fit the drum on, then they will have to be adjusted "bigger" to fit the worn drum. Sorry to be so wordy, but it's kinda hard to explain. |

Re: Brake pad install help
Did you compare the lengths of the new shoes to the old ones? Some Marathons used a slightly longer or shorter shoe.
Sorry, I don't remember what years were impacted but many parts for Marathons fit many, many model years and interchanging parts across model years was a common issue you run across with some being just slightly "different." Good luck. |

Re: Brake pad install help
Got the shoes on. It was a combination of the adjustment under the pedal and what yurtle described. Thanks everyone!
