You are right
Every shop should have one and know how to use it.

Proper refractometer evaluation is time consuming - not something most shops are willing to do.

I need a new SG gauge so I'll pick one up and post those results. It's a tough pill to swallow but I know you guys are right. I'll replace the 2011 batteries. There are 3 left in the pack. Did you notice battery number 4. 2011 battery and it was at 10.9. Dang good Trojan battery. I'm curious do any of you guys that use your carts almost daily ever get much more than 5 years out of a Trojan battery? I have heard of RV guys getting 10 years but I know it's likely related to less discharge and charge cycles.

Voltage does not tell the whole story on battery condition.

My wife's aunt had an old cart that pulled a feed wagon down a row of outdoor pens 2 times a day, the batteries lasted 9 yrs but, the job was short and the batteries were 'always' on charge. But if you took the same the cart to town in yr 6 you would be calling home for a ride.

3 and 6 are junk. They have lost the ability to "take a charge".

They are the ones that can hurt a pack of batteries.
The lead acid battery is 100 years old, they are easy to figure out if they are good at bad, not really rocket science. They either don't take a charge, or don't hold a charge.
