Seat bottom bolts spinning and won't come out
I have a 2012 Precedent and when trying to remove the hip restraints, the bolts are just spinning and not moving. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get the threaded inserts (I assume that is what they are called) that the bolts screw into the wood to bite and stop spinning. I'd hate to have to buy a whole new seat just because I can't get these stupid bolts out.

Re: Seat bottom bolts spinning and won't come out
If this is the same as my DS seat bottom was, try using something like a flat head screw driver or something that you're able to wedge under the hip restraint bracket and seat bottom (wood part) to lift it up (upward pressure) as you unscrew the bracket from the wood. Hope this works for you!

Re: Seat bottom bolts spinning and won't come out
The bolt is threaded into a Tnut (see here > http://www.homedepot.com/b/Tools-Har...s/N-5yc1vZc2a4 ) and 2 problems occur with these things in wet climates. One is the bolt and nut rust together.
Two is the T nut spins in the wood loosing all ability to hold still. A sawzall is the only alternative removal tool.Try to cut the bolt where it will not do visible damage to the handles. The I'm assuming you are reupholstering the seat. You have 2 options as the t nuts are installed from inside the seat below the foam cushion... drill holes in a new location for the handles and install new t nuts or use #14 self starting screws. Another solution is to replace the plywood seat bottom and install new T nuts in the OEM locations, I hope this helps. |

These won't last as long as the T-nuts, but they avoid messing with the upholstery.

Re: Seat bottom bolts spinning and won't come out
You can also try a Dremal tool with a small abrasive cutting disc. This is much easier to control and may help in limiting damage to the surrounding materials. You can just cut the head of the screw/bolt. When you replace the new screws, try coating the threads in a silicone lube or never seize coating.
