Default Electric club car braking on hills after lift

I have a 48v club car ds that I bought for hunting. I planned to lift it from the beginning but now after driving it for a year in the woods I'm kind of worried about it. Anytime I go down a hill my wheels always seem to lock up and even with me release braking it gets pretty sketchy going down a couple of the hills to the point I won't go down them. The cart still has the factory golf course tires on it.. If I lift the cart and add aggressive tires to it will my braking be any better with the aggressive tires versus the smooth tires or will it still be about the same. My daughter and I took a pretty scary ride in it this year and I'm debating on the lift or selling it and buying a side by side.

Thanks in advance for helping a newbie

This has always been my reason for not having regen braking if you have steep hills. You are helpless no way to release the regen but speed up.

You can have the regen set to 0, that way it only kicks in when you get to max cart speed. Like 19.6 mph with spd code 4.

Or you can install front brakes.

Your wheels should not lock up when you go down a hill. If the brakes are that touchy, they need to be adjusted. What's the serial number for your vehicle? It's hard for me to tell you exactly what you need to do unless I know what we're dealing with.

Ok it's a 2009 Club Car DS with the IQ drive system. The IQ system has regenerative motor braking, but it shouldn't brake electronically hard enough to lock up the tires. So I'm assuming you mean the mechanical brakes are locking up when you press the brake pedal. They shouldn't be so touch. I recommend taking the brake drums off, taking the shoes off and lubricating all moving parts in the brake mechanism. Scuff the shoes up with some 80 grit sand paper and sand the inside of the brake drum as well to remove any rust build up. This should make a huge different. If the motor braking is causing you issues, it can be removed by installing a high speed magnet in your motor.

David... is "axle twist" relevant on non-lifted sparkies?

I'm here to tell you regen braking will make the wheel slide on steep hills. If you add gravel or wet blacktop leaves etc.whoa!

I use my Regen brake all the time and have never been able to make the cart slide.

Even when I forced a slide condition down hill on a winter morning it did not happen.

I guess it is possible that on the early Regen Controllers that depended on "Dynamic" brake when the cart traveled below 11mph, if that system had been altered (removing DB solenoid) it may lock the wheels .

The IQ and Excel controllers get 50 pulses from the motor for each time the wheels make one revolution, it knows how fast the motor is turning or not.

I don't think the new Regen controllers will allow the cart to slide.
