Precedent i2 Excel speed upgrade questions
Hello all,
I have thumbed around here and on the interweb for a couple days now and I'd like to know if I'm heading in the right direction - so I have a few questions that I think this forum can help answer. So from what I can understand I have a 2008.5 Precedent i2 Excel. My VIN is PD0835-953528. As such, this cart cannot use the aftermarket "speed code 5" upgrade module because it does not have an iQ type controller but the Excel controller. THEREFORE - In order to get more speed on flat ground the most I could do without replacing parts is to re-program the controller to the speed code 4 setting (Am I right So far?) - FIRST QUESTION - is there a way to tell what it is set to now? - NEXT - Is there a way to re-program yourself or does this have to be done at the dealer? - THIRD - could i have the motor upgraded to a Plum Quick Bandit (purple) and if so, do I have to change any other parts? - Brake regen confuses me - Is this a feature in the motor or of the controller? Can this feature be removed and what are pros and cons - If i choose to do the Motor upgrade - how does brake regen and speed setting benefit me after the motor upgrade? I just need to understand all of this before i start spending money in all the wrong places. Thanks All!! |

Re: Precedent i2 Excel speed upgrade questions
UPDATE
It seems my cart is an i2L - meaning it had 10 inch wheels and pinstripes and a soft wheel - but Im unsure if anything else is different? I also have looked into a D&D 11hp motor but they recommend a new 500 amp controller and new solenoid and wires - Lotsa $$$ but for not much more speed when compared to bandit upgrade What exactly does PQ do to the engine to get that kind of increase with no other changes? |

I see you are a sponsor vendor. Great to know! I always try to buy from sponsors. of forums I belong to A little more info - my cart is used in a trailer park - no hills - no off-roading. My cart is lifted 3.5" and has 14" wheels with low profile rubber so under 19" OD I'm guessing (cant remember tire size) so if i got over 20 MPH that would exceed what I could use in the park. If you could indulge me - While this new controller does not require any other upgrades, do you recommend any (Solenoid, wires etc)? If so to what benefit? Also this cart is a 2008.5 i2L Excel 48v but with 4x12v. The battery bay is the newer style and would support the 6x8v setup. Could/should I convert to 6x8V and if so would the obc or anything else have to change? And what batteries would you recommend? Thanks again |

Re: Precedent i2 Excel speed upgrade questions
Not answering for Dave by any means. He is the man. Consider your batteries as your gas tank. If you are running as long as you want now with your setup then you don't need to change your batteries. If you need more run time, then, 6 8v are the way to go. You achieve the same 48 volts either way you go. the more batteries, the more run time between charges. A larger controller will also consume more energy. A larger controller has a way of doing something to your foot controlling the go pedal.:)

Re: Precedent i2 Excel speed upgrade questions
w4rwf is correct regarding the batteries. The OBC may or may not need to be changed. It depends on the software version. There is a sticker on the OBC that will tell you the version. It's near the bottom of the pink sticker on the front of the OBC. It'll say something to the effect of v3.01 or v4.0... As for the speed limit in your campground, the Alltrax is fully adjustable. You can manually go in with your laptop and set the maximum speed and the controller will not allow the cart to go any faster than that. It's based on RPM, so you may have to play with it for a while until you find a speed you like, but it's very easy to use. The software is free, all you need is a USB 2.0 printer cable to make the connection to a home computer. Alltrax doesn't require any upgrades to use the 300 amp controller. If you ever think you may go bigger, it wouldn't hurt to put some bigger cables and a heavy duty solenoid on it, but it's not going to matter with the 300.

Re: Precedent i2 Excel speed upgrade questions
Well my batteries are fine for now then. It only gets used on weekends in the summer and a charge see me through a couple weekends at a time.
When I order the controller (I assume it's the XCT300IQ that's for my cart) would the program settings be all set up for my stock motor or can I get the information to set it up myself. I imagine I'd have to input the specs of my application into the software... which I'm not sure I'd know. Sorry if this is sounds like carting 101, but when I can draw info from people in the know, that's a thing I like to take advantage of when possible. |

Sounds like you only charge right before you are ready to use it. Should be on charge any time your not driving it, as in you are done for the day with it.

W4RWF - Thank you for taking me to battery university! What are your thoughts about a battery tender that would allow me to keep my cart plugged in in my absence and fully charged
David i'd bet you can help me with that too? |
