Unhappy JohnnieB's computer gave up the ghost.

Early this morning, the computer I use for BGW decided to stop working. Shut down while I was typing a reply to a post.

A replacement is on order, but all my BGW stuff is stored on a harddisk in a nonfunctioning computer, so I'll be down or limited for a few days.

Bummer. I have a dual bay USB docking station that will accept one laptop sized hard drive, so I can always move drives to other machines, assuming it's not the drive that's dead. It also does ESATA.

I still have a shoebox completely full of old IDE hard drives, where I've moved the data to SATA drives. Gotta tear them apart, pull out the rare earth magnets, then smash the platters.

The platters make great targets. :-)

What did you decide on for a replacement? Tell us about her. Solid State? Bigger tires?

Actually I plan on launching them with these. I have three now. They weigh 150 pounds each.

Good Grief!! What the h... are those? I'm on the other side of Atlanta. I hope I'm far enough away to be out of the frag pattern!

AFTER he retrieves the data from the drive.

The neodymium magnets inside the drive are useful also.

From left to right:
IDE HDs waiting to be harvested, pile of platters, magnets, active SATA HDs, Docking Station.

I keep the rare earth magnets in their keepers, 'cause if you were to just dump them in a container, you'd never get them apart. They're also pretty brittle.

Those are high energy capacitors. They're designed to dump a TON of energy really fast. 15 kiloJoules. Prolly left over from the Star Wars project.

Here's a poor-man's data storage. Most are 2TB, with a couple of 1.5TB. 20TB, and I need to get another, as all are full
