Need all the experts on this one..
Well I know this is the electric ez go section. Butttt... I have a Ford Think in the shop and I just need some opinions. I put the think in Forward and the solenoid turns on then when i press the pedal it jerks really bad, eventually shutting the cart off. My first thought was motor. Replaced it. Still had the problem. THen I took the rear end apart, saw that the spider gears were sticking very bad. So ordered a new rear end. Well the problem is still there. I know no one is really an expert on these POS's but I just need some opinions. What could/ would be causing a cart to jerk?? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Electric car jerking. Is the solenoid dropping out? Could be a battery problem.

Re: Need all the experts on this one..
Aside from an answering Scotty's question, who I consider one of the number of experts on this forum.... I have a cart that does that sometimes. But it don't do it all the time. Never been able or felt like digging into it when it was acting up. I suspect the controller is causing it but haven't been able to prove it.
The jerking might explain the drive train problems you have had but I am no expert. If you keep replacing things you will eventually determine what was wrong. |

Re: Need all the experts on this one..
I honestly know nothing about your vehicle, but I have had carts that do this and it is usually a bad battery. Does it fail in reverse too? I would connect a DMM to the battery pack and see what the voltage shows when you try and move the vehicle. If it drops considerably, you have a bad connection in the high current circuit, or a bad battery.
You can also test each battery in turn while trying to move the vehicle too. I'd do this if the voltage dropped severely on the first test. :) |

Re: Need all the experts on this one..
Sounds kinda like the "shake of death" that carts get when the batteries are literally at the point where they can give no more juice away. If it is, then unfortunately it looks like you need batteries or a battery. Can you monitor the voltage of the pack and then of the individual batteries while it's jerking?
EDIT: Just read simpleman's post above me, looks like he and I are on the same page. |

Maybe Cameron will put the meter on each battery and drive the cart hard uphill or such while noting the voltage drop. If he does this for all the batteries collectively and individually we will have a better idea about the state of the pack.

Re: Need all the experts on this one..
Scottyb, exactly what I thought. But the solenoid tests out fine.
And for everyone that said Battery issue, I did check all the voltages on each battery, and they are all 12.7V for a total of 76.2V (Give or a take a few decimal spots.) I have no way to really drive it, but with the meter connected to main positive and main negative. If I press the accelerator full throttle the voltage drops to 69V. Again this is not fully charged. It's kind of been a PITA for as long as I've worked here. Also I would like to change serious components until I find the issue, but the simple fact that these dang parts are nearly impossible to find, and when I do find them they are no cheap. LOL. Any other ideas? There is a diagnostic mode, but it really does no help. I can find the meaning of the code, but apparently no one knows exactly how to repair/diagnose/test etc. a ford think. I'm convinced at this point it's the controller. It just makes sense that the solenoid kicks on, you can hear the motor trying to spin. It's almost as if the regen brake is coming on and off. Does that sound right to anyone else or am I just crazy Thanks guys!! Cameron |

Re: Need all the experts on this one..
Just a reminder, see what voltage each battery has under load. All it takes is one bad cell in one battery to bring the whole system down!
