I would check the AC voltage where the charger plugs into while it is charging. Just a thought. Could have a loose neutral or connection somewhere in the ac service.

AC outlet is good.

All batteries go from positive to negative.

ScottyB, your charger is set from the factory, I have not changed anything on that yet.

Here are pictures of both chargers and batteries.

I just unplugged the new charger from the cart, it has been running for 21 hours, and still charger is at 10 amps, pack is at 53 with charger still running.

I see DEEP CYCLE (Korean import) batteries & a mix of cable sizes - you need golf cart batteries.

Can you try your chargers on another cart?

Scotty

Those are centennial batteries, made by USBattery. Sold by Battery Systems, throughout Southern Calif, There is a Battery Systems in Fontana, Anaheim, and Palm desert.

Awhile back, I contacted the people at Delta Q reguarding which algorhythm
to use for Centennial batteries, and they told me to use the same as Trojans.

There is a combination of 4ga and 2ga cables on this cart. Would that have anything to do with this particular problem?

Also, I checked voltage at the batteries and it is the same at the charge recept ( 50.4) after 21 hours of charging. Still charger won't drop below 10 amps.

I don't have access to another cart here that has the heavy duty ezgo plug.

The chargers are in bulk charge mode (High amp flow and below 2.35VPC. which is 56.4V in Mode-2 for a 48V pack), so the chargers are behaving normally.

The question is: Why aren't the batteries climbing above an average of 7.05V each with 15A or so flowing through them.
The answer is: The batteries are bad or something is holding the pack voltage down.

Has anything other than distilled water ever been added to the batteries?

Is there anything connected to the battery pack, or anywhere within the battery pack, that runs all the time? (Looks like several small wires connected to the battery terminals.)

Try disconnecting everything except the charger port cables to the main Positive and negative terminals and the seven interconnecting cables. Then see if the batteries will charge normally.

If results in above test are inconclusive and if you haven't done so, measure the ac voltage at the receptacle with the charger running. Something strange is going on here and it shouldn't be hard to solve. You have gotten some good suggestions here. The reason I suggest you check this is just yesterday I helped a friend solve a low voltage problem in a circuit to the Kitchen and I found a loose neutral in the breaker box that had been getting hot for a long time and all of a sudden started acting up causing low voltage. Otherwise ignore my suggestion if you are sure the voltage is there. You have either a charger/power source problem, a Battery problem or something else.

They may have the same total voltage of 48 but the other properties are not the same. Amperage, for instance. Maybe this is a reason for such anomaly. As suggested, try using it on a cart with 6 8-volt batteries.

Johnnie, no luck. I unhooked all wire xcept the 2 from the charge recept, and then plugged in the charger again.
Charger still doesn't go past 53 volts ( either charger), and won't go less than 15 amps.

I also checked the ac socket as the charger was running, all is fine, it was at 119.4 volts.

Did I mention I am a commercial electrical contractor

So there seems nothing left but to replace the year an a half old batteries. That really sucks. Cart belongs to a snowbird that has only got less than a years use out of it,.

I think before I throw in the towel on these batteries, I am going to run them thru my expensive "Blaster machine". That is a 15 hour process that hits the batteries with 200 amp electrical pulses. Usually it will take batteries with a resistance of about 10, and knock them down to about 6 ohms. New batteries are about 3.5.

Its worth a try, since I have the machine, and I am out of options on this mess.

I will report back, to see if I had any luck with that process. If not, I will get another set of batteries and try that,.

Thanks for all your help, guys. I will get back to you.

disappointed that I didn't find a cheaper solution.
