Default Golf Cart Rookie!

So I'm hoping that someone could point me in the right direction. I just received an Ez-Go cart from a neighbor and I believe it is a late 80's model. Basically the cart doesn't run at all and I have never "looked under the hood" of a cart before so I don't even know where to begin trying to figure out whats wrong. There are currently no batteries in the cart but I do have good ones from another cart to use for testing. Help?

Welcome to BGW!

Does it have a controller, or is it a resistor drive?

Does it look like one of these?
The first two are controller drives, the third is a resistor drive.

It's a picture somebody posted on BGW, can't remember who.
The label that can be seen on one of them says Data Safe and they appear to be 12V (6 caps), so my guess is that they are Gel Cell batteries out of a large UPS.

I've seen 3kW units made by APC whose run-time extension modules had Gell Cell batteries about that size in them. Whoever built that cart must work in IT, those things aren't cheap.

Also, it looks like he is running a 72V system.

Many industries change out perfectly good batts on a schedule, rather than on batt condition.
