Default Cart struggling with 25" tires, how much better will it do with 22"

Recently posted about my cart struggling with 25" tires. I have 48volts on 36volt motor. Alltrax 300 amp controller with 2ga wire and hd solenoid. I have a friend wanting to trade my 25 x 10-12 tires and rims for his 22 x 11-10 tires and rims. How much torque or power will I gain back by downsizing my tires, I have about 6 inches of lift so don't know how it will look but its got to help my power right. Any info appreciated. Thanks

No better way than to try them out. Buy him a few beers to bring them over.

Mathematically, the torque loss on 25" tires is 28% and the loss on 22" tires is 18%, so you ought to gain about 10% going from 25" down to 22", but it depends on what kind of tires, some designs are harder to turn.

Like yurtle said, you'll have to try them to find out.

Also, even at 48V, a 300A controller is mighty small for 25" tires, it ought to be larger. With 22" tires it still might be under powered.

Is it a series or sepex drive?

If it's any easier, you really only need the back two tires to see what it does for speed and torque. After the test drive, if you like the performance, you can put both smaller tires on one side, and leave the two larger tires on the other. Don't drive like this. Dunno what different sized tires would do to the differential. Then you can see which ones physically look better. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Part of your problem is the 300a control. That is close to equal to the stock 275a unit. You need a 500a control and the 22" tires for best results.

Snake,

I have 25" using a 700 amp controller and sometimes I wish I had 22" or 23" tires.

KoJo,

My cart is a series Club Car 48 volt, no its not that bad it almost pops a wheelie but I think I would have been a little happier with 22' or 23". Sometimes that little extra torque is important for a hunting cart in the woods. Yes I have swapped out the tires one hunting weekend with a friends 22" and you could tell the difference.

And this is all my opinion, alot of folks have 25" and even bigger and are happy as far as I can tell. It takes more $ to get the performance out of 25" that you could get from 22" or so for less $ IMO.
