Resistor cart gets hot
Just wondering if there was any tricks to keeping a resistor cart cool? My parents have one at their campground and with all the speed bumps and them having a light foot the resistor gets really hot. Actualy caught on fire last year. Is there anything I can do to help keep it cool or not really.....

run wide open! I put 1/0 cables and ran a wire straight from the last stud to the motor. I have noticed a little bit of a difference after doing this, but it still gets hot. When you go slow for a distance, pull something, or go up hills it still gets hot.

This is the only fix Conversion_Kit. The only time the coils are not in the loop is when the pedal is to the floor

If you run wide open the resistors are supposed to be bypassed according to some diagrams posted here. It might be a resistive connection in the switch contacts. Just guessing.

Good diagram. Wide open bypasses the resistors, which are heaters. Don't park on dry grass when running slow.

I ran a HD resistor on mine, which had much thicker coils. I don't know how much it helped because I never got to run it with the factory resistor on it. The upgraded unit had flat coils which seemed to dissipate heat fairly well. It was a bout a $250 upgrade, but I put it through a lot and never had an issue. Even pulled a trailer up a hill and melted my F/R switch, but never had any issue with the resistor.

I ran a new wire and completely bypassed the resistor housing. It took out one connection and let the current go straight to the motor.
