Default Cushman 36V will not stop

Hey all, I am posting for my dad who is computer illiterate. He has an old 3 wheeled 36v electric cushman. I do not know which model but I can tell you it has a round steering wheel, and a brake built into the drivers seat meaning you have to be seated in order to drive.

The cart started having an issue where it does not want to stop meaning once you take your foot off the gas pedal the cart will still want to move forward or reverse under power. If you get off, the cart will stop due to the brake, but the motor is still under load and will get super hot.

WHat may be the cause of this?

Any help will be appreciated!

Thank you

Nick

Putting the forward - reverse switch in neutral should stop the flow of current to the motor. I would suggest to make sure the gas pedal returns fully to the idle position. What "Crash" said could be the problem too! The solenoid could be stuck. A good smack on it with a screwdriver handle should release it, if that's the cause. If the solenoid was indeed stuck, you will need to replace it as it will stick again.

THe gas pedal does return all the way. Yes putting it in neutral does stop the juice flowing to the motor.

I will go ahead and check the solenoid.

Thanks guys not I at least have a starting point!

I would post pictures, but the problem is the cart is 2 hrs away from me on our hunting land right now so that is no go until I get up there again.

oh .. .. reading diagrams for cushman all the 3 wheelers have the wiper switch that i've found .. the wiper switch cuts off power when pedal is released , if you are gettin power then the switch arm is stuck ... solenoid stuck closed would still be cut off by wiper switch

Cushman Electric with Lights may not be your diagram, i highlighted switch

Crash, that diagram shows a direct connection from the solenoid to the first coil, like Club Car does. It would keep power to the motor if the solenoid was stuck! I had a CC do this once when the solenoid was stuck.
