Default Cart bogs down going up hill

I have a 1997 ezgo txt with the robins 295cc. It has great start up speed and great straight away speed but bogs down on hills! If you take a running start at the hill, it will slowly go up the hill then speed up as soon as you crest the hill. If you start up the hill and stop on the hill, then take back off, it goes right up the hill with no problem but as soon as you crest the hill it’s like it stays in low gear and just reaves up and slow. I’ve replaced the carb, plugs, fuel filter, air filter, fuel, and belt. I even went out and got the shorter belt and that didn’t help. Any info will be appreciated! Thanks

Clutches not working correctly. The belt shouldn't have a lot of slop in it. Not tight by any means but not really loose either. My first lesson on golf carts was when i went to the woods and went to go up one of the big hills. No matter how fast I hit the hill the cart would come to a stop sounding like the belt was slipping. Soon as I'd push on the brake and stop, let the engine idle and let the cart roll back a foot or so it would take off and go on over the hill. led me to thinking about the belt and clutches. When I got home I slid my engine forward a bit to where the belt was tighter and taken up lower in the drive clutch, closer to the center shaft and the problem went away. I also sprayed some dry lube in the drive clutch housing and on the shaft where the driven clutch's movable side slide to make up the difference in the drive clutches movement. never looked back the cart would tackle the hills and be like asking me is that all the hill you can find.

Anyways it sounds to me like the clutches need some attention. Make sure you don't get any dry slide on the belt or on the clutch faces cause if you do you won't be going much of anywhere.

Oh yes, don't try to get a run at the hill either, just approach it as it is, a hill and take it easy and let the clutches do the work. The shorter belt is working in your favor too

Thank you for the reply. I’ve cleaned the clutch faces before I put the new belt on, but when I have the belt off again, I will clean it again. I will get some dry lube and put on the shafts. I’ve been debating on getting a 28 degree driven clutch. Thoughts?? My goal is to put a lift and bigger tires on it but want to get it going up hills better before I put that stuff on it. It’s never felt like the belt has been slipping and I haven’t smelt it either! It just bogged the motor down going up the hill. A local golf cart shop that I talked to on the phone thought it would be more in the motor than the clutches. But it runs great on the start and the flats. Thank you
