Rebuild or leave?
Looking for some thoughts here..
I’ve got the diff nearly all torn down. Already replaced the axle bearings and will replace the axle seals. I am installing a limited slip pumpkin (that’s all ready and waiting to go in) with new bearings. Question… I’ve torn it down this far…. My mechanic brain is telling me to replace the idler and input shaft bearings and o-rings while I have it apart but they test fine… So I’m on the fence… For context - this is the 300 dollar “as is” barn find - Origins unknown. I plan to put a high torque motor in it as it is now a stretched TXT. Experts chime in but at this point I’m inclined to listen to my inner voice telling me do it now Mike or you’ll regret it later… 🤔 |

Re: Rebuild or leave?
If your bearings are still smooth and tight, I'd put 'em back in. O rings however tend to get soft and weak with age and for the price of them are not worth putting back in a gearbox that you plan on using for the next 20 years or so.
