Re: Cart is bogging down bad uphill/in mud
Rub your fingers on the OUTSIDE sleave of the drive clutch - see if it is "stair stepped" or has worn grooves in it. To check the secondary clutch - stick your finger all the way into it and feel if it goes to a "point" in the middle, or if you feel a flat spot on either side at the bottom. Bad clutches will make a perfect motor run like dirt...

Re: Cart is bogging down bad uphill/in mud
Okay so here is what I found out today. The clutch is not totally "dished out" but is showing signs of wear. A local guys says they probably can be machined but recommended if I get this cart I should replace the driven clutch with a different degree clutch for more torque. He also said if I wanted to spend the cash on a cart he could get me a early 2000's ezgo marathon that is a workhorse style cart that came stock with 11hp engine and the upgraded clutch. It also has a bed on it already. He has one coming in that is a 2003 he would let go for around 2500. All it needs is a lift kit and tires and it is good to go and he will service it first. I am gonna test drive it and see what happens when he gets it in. Also the engine in the cart i borrowed was indeed a 9hp engine. It is looking less likely that I buy this cart because it seems like an uphill battle. Thanks for all ya'll's help and advice.

NO, Silly, they made a 93 marathon and then the Medalist and txt but a workhorse is a workhorse because it is on a longer frame, albeit, a txt frame

The medalist started in 94 1/2 and also continued till around 97 maybe even later, they stopped sale to the public in 96 but they also continue in special orders to courses. there are workhorse type carts of this version. The txt and the "workhorses" started in late 95 but most claim 96. There are workhorses that are the same wheelbase as the txt cart so it's just not a longer cart, they have short ones too. The carts that were special orders have now found their way into the market so it is possible to have one of these carts that not to many people know they exist. |
