88 gas marathon battery charge problem

I have an 88 marathon that ran strong before the one mount on the starter generater broke. I installed a new starter that is slightly different but now the battery wont hold a strong enough charge to run. I can charge it for 2 hours and i can ride it for almost 10 minutes before it dies. I also put a new battery in it before i changed the starter as well.

Any suggestions will help alot. Thanks in advance.

Try putting a voltage gauge on it. I have one on my 89 and it pulls 14 volts running. I have put a new voltage regulator on mine also. do some looking around and check all the wires are in good shape. Also the ground wire from the battery to the frame may be dirty and needing cleaning.

i would check the starter brushes. it will start fine but after a certain rpm it turns into a generator. if the brushes are bad it wont charge.

Thanks for the help! I went over the the connections and I had 2 of the connections in the wrong spot. I also cleaned my ground connections. As of yesterday it still runs like it should.
