Tire selection help

I've got an 87 marathon gas. I just installed a 4" economy lift. I'm trying to decide on tires and possibly wheels also. I've been leaning towards some 20x10-10 carlisle all trails. And getting some 10" wheels with a 3/4 off set. Question is, should I be thinking about going to 22" tires? It looks like there is room but I don't want to cut it close. Any one been through this?

On the marathons 22's will fit with 4-5" lift. That is the biggest you can go I believe.

Don't take this the wrong way, but are we sure 22" will fit? I'm also a little worried about the power robbing feature of larger tires? How big is that going to be going from stock 18.5 to 20, to 22's. I know it will be less, but is it really noticeable?

No worries. Quite a few of the experienced guys on here have put 22's on their marathon without issues.

i started with 4" and 23's knowing i was pushing my luck.
I have heard that 22's will fit with 4" as 1fast67 mentioned many many times.
It just didnt fit my plans, so i went with 8" and still going to run 23's until i get more cash and then ill go bigger.

I have been running the 4" economy lift with 22" all trails for the last 5 years with no problems at all on my 86'. Good combination, still had plenty of power. I am a extremely big guy and with no gov on the old girl she would hit 32 with the GPS on the flats. Stock bore, no gov, 3" cold air tube with large cone filter. Only reason I am going bigger now is MORE POWER!

Tube and filter? Tell me more please. I've been looking at making a change to the air intake. What about your wheels with those 22's. Size and offset?

I am using 8" wheels with 3/4 offset with the 22" all trails. I had to go cheap at the time and the white 8" 3/4 offset wheels were only $20 each on sale.
As far as the intake tube and filter it was installed just to get away from the stock setup. Here are a couple of crude pictures from a couple years ago I found. It is just a cheap Spectre Cone filter, 90 deg elbow, and a rubber adapter to fit the carb. All parts bought at local Autozone for less than $30.

I've got to do something for my air intake. Since I put the lift on it really put a kink in the factory hose that goes from the filter housing to the carb. I wouldn't expect much, but did you notice any difference performance wise? Or did you have to make any changes to the carb afterwards?

I thought there might have been a increase but tough to say for sure. You could definitely hear a difference as it was breathing better. I never made any adjustments to the carb.
