Default 2001 E-Z-GO TXT Frame Repair

Hi, I have a 2001 E-Z-GO TXT,I got it for free from m neighbor who moved and the front of the frame has some rust damage. The passenger side is rusted all the way through and the driver side has a rust hole. I've been told that I can sand down and weld some metal in the place of the rusted frame, will this work or am I better off hoping that someone has a donor frame?
Thanks, Joey

Been here - done this... take the front cowl & dash off and the floor up for proper access.

You can put in the section [s] that you need and be fine. It will be stronger than stock I promise. I may fail but it won't in that spot it would be on either side on the slight chance it did. Those chances are like less than 20% unless itt was buried in salt water or something.

Pics would help. I ran into cracks on my TXT, and wound up putting some flat bar in, some C channel, then some strap along bottom edge on both sides. Be sure you leave a drain hole near the bottom, if you weld it up solid, it could hold water. I used a metal brush in a cordless drill to get at most of the rust I could see, then painted over with Rustoleum.

Joey,

Besides getting advice here, you should be cruising a few welding forums too.

You said rust holes, so your frame is mild steel. Common, repair pieces are called square tubing, round tubing, or "L" angle. Cut up bed frames make good "L" angle.
What type of welder do you plan on using?

Bed frames are usually free when found but hard and brittle. You'll hate it if you have to drill a hole in it later. C channel was best for this repair if I remember right. And check the other side while you are at it
