Re: Gen3 leaf modules anyone?
I made my pack four years ago - 14 Gen 1 modules. I used copper bus bars to connect the cells. I have pix somewhere but they are all over this site.

Re: Gen3 leaf modules anyone?
Pics of the pack in the drawing above. First 1/2 module on left is skipped. Installed in a Precedent. Controller moved to battery tub, Tow-Run is all that is on back side of old controller plate. Original harness is just rerouted, no wire changes except for motor cables, which were being upgraded anyway. The converter is just left of the pack and is sitting on a 6"w 1.5"h tunnel which covers the main harness and the lighting harness. It gets more crowded, but same thing can be done with a double pack. For a Precedent with a rear seat, this is a must. Easily done with a RoyPow install as well.

Re: Gen3 leaf modules anyone?
Am I missing something? That doesnt look hard at all. Will I see any difference in these compared to the gen2s?

Re: Gen3 leaf modules anyone?
Nice packs! Both can work. I would opt for the larger pack and the difficulty of hooking it up. I would probably do it the way Bcsherm did it and maybe connect all of the two parallel packs together with balance wires so that one BMS could be used.

Re: Gen3 leaf modules anyone?
Nice work. I see you made use of the original Leaf tap harness wiring and terminals to the new BMS. I haven't seen the orange covers is use since Nick from EV Battery Center passed away in 2017.
What BMS are you using? Because the packs themselves are connected in parallel, how are the individual cells doing with balance? Is the differential on each pack nearly the same? How long have you have this pack in use? |

Re: Gen3 leaf modules anyone?
It is important to point out those packs are not in direct parallel with each other.
If You are using a BMS that the current passes through its FETs (like in the pack shown), then the packs are isolated from each other and each BMS can stop the charge or discharge for that pack in case of a cell LV/HV. |

Re: Gen3 leaf modules anyone?
I can't tell from the picture how they are wired. I would like to see a wiring diagram. I have an idea how I would wire it but I would like to see if it has two separate balance circuits or not.

Re: Gen3 leaf modules anyone?
The packs are separate 14s1p simply combined.
I’m using (2) 14s, 100amp, BMS with Bluetooth, for watching the cells and adjusting parameters. I’ve had it working in my cart for a few months. All the cells stay extremely well balanced, like within .003 volt. https://www.lithiumbatterypcb.com/pr...rge-current-2/ |
