Need new batteries
I have a 04 36 volt and need new batteries. My question is can I use 3 12-volt instead of 6 6-volt?

Re: Need new batteries
It will run on 3/12s but the run time will be reduced and the charger will kill off the batteries within a year.

Re: Need new batteries
Not Recomended. People have done it, and still will. There is a reason the manufacturers use 6, 6v batteries and it's not price. The 12v batteries are not designed for golf carts, The six volt batteries are. The amperage is not there. They also won't run as long between charges as cart batteries.
There are others that know more on this than me, we'll wait for more input. Dang, Scotty got me again! Last edited by tonyton; 06-11-2009 at 09:35 PM.. Reason: scotty comment |

Re: Need new batteries
Don't the 48volt club cars have 12-volt batteries? They should be designed for golf carts.

Re: Need new batteries
I want to try it as well. I picked up a project 3 wheel cart and before I sink a pile of money in new 6 volts I need to power this thing up to 36 volts so that I can work on it. But will this damage any of the electical parts? waiting to see some of your answers.

Re: Need new batteries
Bt read my 1st answer It will not hurt the cart but....
piney, yes there are 12v golf cart batts but they have to be matched to the right charger..... the chargers have a different charging pattern and cell measurements for the 12v.... your charger will cook the 12v..... there is no charger set up to charge 3/12s .... |
