Hey Dave, nice set-up. My 18hp from CPP has the same lag problem. My throttle cable runs from pedal to rear-end governor, then to the carb. There are so many springs in the set-up that the gas pedal must be pressed half way down before any reaction from the engine. The only solution is to bypass all of that stuff and connect the gas pedal directly to the carb. I'm planning on doing that to mine after the first of the year, along with rev kit, adv. timing key, and maybe the cam. My rear end has the magnet governor system, so I have to go into the rear end to remove the weights.

A word of advice, never ever for any reason run gas with ethanol in that engine. The ethanol destroys everything on these engines, and warranty does not cover the replacement parts. I have spent almost $200 on replacement parts to get my engine running properly again, and the only use it has seen was 2 hours at CAW.

Order the Vanguard Tach from Tom at CPP. I have that one on my cart and it works rain or shine. Simple to install and set up, and you can change the color of the internal light if you want (parts included). Let me know if you have any questions or problems with the set-up if you get the tach from CPP. The pick-up that connects to the plug wire can be tricky.

Thanks The CPP kit is pretty straight forward--no problems at all. It's a ton of fun, that's for sure
