Want to test a Textron powerwise battery charger

I just picked up a powerwise mo.28715 GO4. I have removed the cover and blew all the dirt out. I removed the EZGO plug and noticed the terminals and wire appeared to have been hot. One wire was green from corrosion.(the center wire) I see there is a third terminal and it looks toasted. How do I test this charger as it is not going to be used on a EZGO cart. I want to use it on a 36 Volt battery pack. I am upgrading a 24 Volt system to 36 Volt system and will be removing the EZGO plug. Thanks, Ted

A 36V deep cycle lead-acid battery pack is pretty much a 36V deep cycle lead-acid battery pack, no matter what it is in.

The trick is that the 36V Powerwise charger has to sense the battery pack voltage is above about 28V to turn on.
In the EZGO style plug, that is done via the Auxiliary contact touching the outside of the negative terminal in the cart's charger receptacle.
Just connect the battery sense wire to the negative terminal along with the negative output wire in the new style plug.

To test the charger, plug charger into AC power without plugging into cart.
If you hear the transformer hum, the relay has be bypassed and you probably need a new control board.
If the charger remains quiet, plug it into cart.
Now you should hear the transform hum, the Ammeter should jump into the 15-20A range, stay there for several minutes and then taper off to about 8A or so until charger automatically shuts off a few hours later.

Voltage-wise, the pack voltage will start at whatever it is and climb to about 42V as the Amps taper off to about 8A and will climb into the 44V-46V range before charger shuts off.

I am suspecting a capacitor but would like your input:

• No hum when plugged into AC but not cart
• Plugging into cart, relay kicks in and I get a hum
• Very low AMP reading however
• Batteries doe not charge over night

Diodes are okay, fuse is okay.

Like radioman said, probably the capacitor.
