Skratch, I've only built one car, so that makes me one of the least experienced on here. I want one of the big guys to come in and convince me, that I'm telling you the correct thing.

I took the ignition coil, cdi, and was gonna take the pulser coil, but to hard to get out quickly. To the shop and explained to them what it was doing, and thats what they told me. This happened before I knew about this site. So I was really in a quandry!

Hope somebody chims in with real info. soon!!

Also like Sho said; no oil leaks or bird nests in the cooling fins etc.

Yamaha wants a lot of money for that ignitor/CDI. Absolutely not necessary if you know a thing or two about electronics. The main purpose of an ignitor is to amplify the signal to the coil. It does that using a transistor, which is the little black chip with three prongs mounted on a small metal frame (heat sink) and soldered to the main board. Just open the ignitor box, remove that chip with a soldering iron, google the little number on it and order one from china via ebay (5 bucks) Solder it in and away you go. DO NOT buy a new ignitor there is noting else on that board that would fail under normal use.

And yes... that little transistor will cause the engine to fire for a while and then quit for a minute. until it cools down.
