Default Might have bought someone else's problem:(

Just bought 1996 Yamaha G14 from a local golf cart dealer. It was on the show room so never had the chance to drive it. Anyways got home super excited pulled it off the trailer starts up fine , start Rollin down the street everything fine but then a notice a little vibration/ noise ( nothing real severe) . But it won't go any faster than about 7-8 mph. Pulled it in the garage and check a few thing. Compression is 158. Plug looks good , air filter clean , no visual cracks in any of the lines, motor mounts look good, clutch are opening and closing, when driving it if I pull the choke out it run worse.......so long story short I have no idea what to look for next?????? Anybody have any advice what to check next?? I read every thread ..... I under stand air leak are common but I don't see any?? Thanks in advance for any help.

Take it back and have the dealer check it out. Im sure they will work with you since you just purchAsed it. If you say it runs worse with the choke pulled out, that is normal since your dumping too much fuel to an already warm engine. My guess would be worn clutch weights bushings and possibly a belt that worn too much.

Look at the governor-arm on the axle. There is a threaded-bolt with a nut on it,If the nut is out towards the end of the stud, the governor is turned way down.Turn the nut in to increase speed, you can turn it all the way in,and get closer to 20mph.Likely,that is the problem,as fleet-carts are usually set slow.Hope this helps.

It does have a governor on and I will check to see if it's just set for a slow speed.. Appreciate your response , I will keep you posted on my progress.

Do this to the governor for better speed.

Yep...And see where that nut is...If its closer to the mount-end of the stud, its' faster. If the nut is near the end of the threads, its slower. My friends now carry zip-ties to golf-courses!!!

Carts are supposed to be set at 12mph max. I GPS my lawnmower at 14mph or something, but its a commercial unit lol.
