G1 Yahama Clutch (mod Kohler engine)
Hello,
I have a Kohler K321SQ (14HP) engine with a 1 1/8 shaft, 1/4 key that I would like to mod into the G1 as the engine died many years ago. My question is what type of primary clutch will work and also work with the stock drive train clutch/belt size? Thanks, |

Re: G1 Yahama Clutch (mod Kohler engine)
You'll either have to find a 1 1/8" straight shaft clutch, or have the crank machined to fit something different. The G1 won't fit that, it's a 30mm taper. As long as you get a clutch to use a 1 3/16 belt you can use the stock secondary. If you use that engine you will lose reverse.

Re: G1 Yahama Clutch (mod Kohler engine)
You can also machine an adapter to slip on the Kohler shaft and convert it to tapered. The problem is this will move the clutch farther from the engine and limit the space for the engine. I haven't checked but there might be enough material to to bore the clutch out to accommodate the straight shaft.
