Ezgo sparking near solenoid??
I recently purchased a 3 wheel Ezgo cart from someone I know and I know the cart ran fine last year before being put away for the winter. I bought it this spring without batteries and when I put batteries in, and tried to drive it, it started sparking from under the solenoid and could only stop it from sparking if I put it in neutral and turned off the key. See the photos on the diagram I folllowed in wiring the batteries, and an actual pic of how I wired the batteries. There is also a pic of the sparking happening and a pic of the cart. I have a video of it happening but i can’t post links yet.
Is this a wiring issue or something else? |

Re: Ezgo sparking near solenoid??
Thanks. I saw it, but couldn't make out exactly where it was coming from.
Hopefully with this vid, someone familiar with three wheelers or other similar carts can offer advise on what to look for. Kewl green color. |

Re: Ezgo sparking near solenoid??
You are certainly shorted and looks like full pack voltage to me. It looks like you have the cart wired correctly with regard to the pack wiring. The only thing I can't see is where the "feed" wires go (I am assuming the F/R switch). These would be the wires that are on the batteries on either side of the F/R switch. On one terminal on each battery, one wire goes to the charge receptacle and the other goes to....(we can't tell). Can these two non-charge wires be reversed? Do they indeed power the F/R switch?
It's really tough to see the wiring diagram but assuming those wires aren't reversed you have a problem with the F/R or a melted wire there somewhere. Looking from underneath the cart doesn't provide a view of precise spark location? |

Re: Ezgo sparking near solenoid??
That's an old resistor coil cart. The speed wiper board is under the solenoid area ..... that can make lots of sparks

Re: Ezgo sparking near solenoid??
Yes it is coming from that speed wiper board. What would cause it to spark like that? Do I need to replace the contactor?

Here's a picture. While you're in there check that the copper "buttons" on the speed board aren't deformed, burned etc. |
