Re: 99 txt help
An automotive machine shop can machine the crankshaft and get it smooth but you will need either undersized bearing inserts or a new smaller rod. Make sure you can find a rod or smaller bearing insert before paying to get the crankshaft machined. It may be cheaper to just buy a generic "clone" 4 cycle engine and install it.

For the record, I don't know if inserts are even available for those rods. Is there currently an insert type bearing in there now?

Re: 99 txt help
first off when looking at the crank is it aluminum buildup from the rod or do you have big gouges in the surface , most of these small engine cranks can be repaired at home without to much difficulty 9 out of ten times a good cleaning of the crank and a little emory cloth and even cranks with a minor gouge can be used really what we need to start with is a picture of the crank , if it is workable you'll need to start cleaning the crank of all the aluminum with muratic acid (see safety precautions when doing this) eye protection and such but it will remove all of the aluminum from the crank and then from that point check it for size and then emory cloth to polish it. you may find the crank cleaned is still in good shape and within spec , with the aluminum rods that these engines have the dont normally damage the crank I know many people including myself have used this method , and to this day i have not had a rebuild faliure due to this problem

Re: 99 txt help
that looks very useable to me clean up that crank with some crocus cloth or emory cloth and get a replacement rod and gasket set and put it all back together just lube it up and check for binding in the rotating assembly if it binds you have not cleaned the crank enough or may need to file the rod sides a little but really i would just clean up that crank and put it back together there it looks very workable if you have a micrometer you can measure it but really its more of a feel thing when you put the crank and pistons in the block you'll be able to feel it, when you have a ratchet turning over the crank it should be smooth with the cylinders and parts assembled with oil. if you do find a hard spot take one rod cap off and see if the engine turns easier and clean and file as needed and repeat until you have a smooth turning rotating assembly , the way that rod looks broken i would no be suprised if takes more than a try or two to get it where you like it with the rods and crank properly torqued
