Default Down Hill Driving

I'm new to carts and have what might be a strange/dumb question. My cart is an old 2 stroke (82) Marathon. I got it running thanks to all the great info on this forum, HEI conversion, clogged muffler, new fuel pump, spring on the throttle cable and new crank seals.

When driving down a long hill is it ok to completely let off the gas pedal or should I keep my foot on the pedal to keep the engine sparking?

Thanks!
