Default engine

I know that you can't convert cc's to hp, but I would like to know what engine originally came out in my cart. 1992 Yamaha G9. I have searched the web, to no avail. I believe the engine that is in it to be stock, but most I hear are rated in hp and this one is stamped 283cc. Help please.

We have the same cart and I believe it is rated at 9 hp. I have done a lot of research on that and thats what I have found.

Yea, CC's to HP doesn't work. Too many variables.

I thought they were all 10.4hp until the new 357cc that is 11.4? Check the yamaha cart site there is some detail. They do get larger as time goes on, but often the compression is less the newer they get too. G2 has highest compression.

I think the stock G9 is 285cc / 9 hp.

That is right my G9 is a 285cc. Oh here it is yes 8.5hp! G14 was 300cc, G16 301cc. http://www.yamahagolfcar.com/corpora...rtimeline.aspx

The Yamaha G1 had a 2-stroke engine. The G2-G9 models had a Yamaha-built 4-stroke 285cc 8.5hp, single cylinder engine. It has been said to have been a basic copy of Yamaha's motorcycle engine. After the 285 grew long-in-the-tooth, a 301cc was built on the same design platform, but it pumped out 9.5hp. The newest engine of the Yamaha engine lineup is a 357cc, named the 357F, 11.4hp engine, however, this engine is not on the same engine family platform. It is all new. All of Yamaha's engine except the G1's are 4-stroke, overhead valve (OHV) engines. All Yamaha carts except "The Drive" have a Dana/Spicer rear transaxle.

And the G1 engine appears to be a copy of a 70s yamaha sled motor.
