Default Wiring generator with big block swap

yamaha G2 generator/starter with G2 voltage regulator

big block is installed and has a belt turning the stock generator. problem is when i hook up the generator to the battery it obviously wants to work as a starter which i dont need as my big block has its own gear driven unit.

sooooo how do i wire it up so its only a generator that will charge my battery to run lights/stereo etc

i searched and looked at wiring diagrams but am not the best with 12 volt wiring

I would think your big block wouldhave a alternator/generator? Anyway...the G2 starter will have 2 wires coming out of the feilld coil (red and green) those are the charging wires that go to the voltage regulator. Good luck Dave

i dont know for sure if it does, it has a spare set of wires with a plug on it but i have no idea what kind of output it has

i hooked up the red and green to the regulator and the ground already.

i did some reading on how the changeover is made from starting to generating and it seems like the rpms of the motor is what makes it charge so what if i hooked up the stock micro switch so it engages the gen/starter after 1/4 throttle??? that should charge the battery

Big block should have an alternator built into it. It is like any lawn mower engine, just has a side shaft.
