red hot pipe
i have a g-9 limo that i just put back together, and its maiden voyage was camping at panama city fla. st andrews state park, over labor day. and by the way it is a cart friendly camp ground. the only major problem i had, was when it would get hot appx. 6 people and 30 min. of riding it would quit with a backfire .you could let it cool and it would go again ,the longer you let it sit; the farther it would go .the fuel filter was full but you could see the exhaust pipe start to glow until it was red hot ;then the cart would stop running and then backfire any ideas ??

Re: red hot pipe
Engine clogged with dirt under the plastic casing, muffler may be somewhat clogged, or it was just too much for the little engine with 6 people after a while. If you clean the engine, make sure it is cool and not hot. Try not to get water in the clutches or starter/generator.

Re: red hot pipe
this was the first run after putting the engine back together. it was in pieces when i bought it; so the motor was spottless .is there a way to clean out 4 stroke mufflers or could it possibly be running to lean ??

Re: red hot pipe
How does it run not under load? If the exhaust pipe is getting red, it is definitely an indication that it is a stopped up muffler. I don't see why it wouldn't work to burn it off like the 2 strokes. Heck, I'd probably try spraying the thing out with something or hitting it with a rubber mallet here and there, and then blowing it out with my air compressor.

Re: red hot pipe
sounds like an airflow issue
check air filter and is your muffler stock? if it is then put it in a campfire and burn all crap out of it or you could try switching to a larger muffler for better flow |

Make sure your air box is assembled correctly. Any leaks will cause a lean run. A fat (rich) carb will actually run the engine cooler. Unless it was a worn out smoker and run that way for a long while I'm not sure the muffler will be clogged. Check the air box. Just keep in mind you have a 9ish HP engine pulling a cart with 6 adults on it. |
