Here's what I did to "Jury Rig" the same situation on my cart,

Get a flexible (rubber) 1 1/4" "P Trap" from your local hardware store or do it yourself center,
with an 1 1/4" plastic straight tube... and 4 hose clamps,
cut up the P Trap and make it into an "S", and it should come out something like this....
(It's not pretty... but it works!)

Note: I am in the process of redoing it right now with a B&S 90 degree intake tube, I'm taking pics and will start a new thread!

Before... and... after

It replaces the one on the end of the carb that hooks up to the air hose going to the airbox.
the only thing that really needs to be done is, grinding down the nut side of the flange, and,
drilling and tapping a hole for a "barb" (to attach the small hose coming from the valve cover.)

Nooooo... the yellow line is a carb vent line, it's supposed to be open on the opposite side!
In the event your carb overflows, the fuel will bleed out that line to the ground,
rather than filling your crankcase with fuel!

There should be a smaller hose coming from the valve cover (it's aluminum, and has "OHV" on it!)
That's what the "barb" is for!

And I'm glad it's running better for you!
