Shorter Belt?
Anybody know if there is a shorter length drive belt out there that will fit on the club car to give it more low end torque? I was able to do this on a ezgo cart and it made a huge difference climbing hills.

yes you can run the carry all belt on a ds for mor torque. i do not know the ds number but i do know the carryalls run this belt number. 1017188
you will lose a bit on your top end speed, but you should get a little more power on it. |

Yea, I should have mentioned I have a carryall and am running that belt already. I didnt know if anybody was running a polaris or any other type of shorter aftermarket belt for more bottom end. Maybe my belt is just worn out. It still looks pretty good but also looks really loose and wants to squeal and loose power on some hills.

Check the faces of your clutches with a straight edge to see if they're cupped. Max wear is .060

I got a 1017188 "severe duty" drive belt from CPP, and I'll never go back to a stock belt!

that good lock...its almost time for new belts tehre talking to me! i dont want to look like a cheap person who cant afford the good stuff! or just a simple new belt. i mighthave to order a new drive and starter belt. both are pushing 12 years!

The way to measure the belt is at the cord diameter. There is a chamfer on the OD so measuring the top width will give false measurements. These belts have a tolerance limit second to none

It's to my understanding CC's 7188 and 7189 belts are 1" wide at the cord,
And it's also to my understanding that you shouldn't change to a "shorter" belt on a CC, because the cart will "jump" at start up. (Anyone can correct me on this if I'm wrong!) That being said... It sounds like your belt is worn, either replace it with a stock belt, or get a "Severe Duty" belt from Cart Parts Plus. (I have to admit, the SD belt has "grip" like there's no tomorrow!) my .02 |
