Default Knocking noise

I have a 2001 DS and since I got it I've noticed this knocking noise everytime the motor starts up. It stays knocking at very low rpm or when the engine is about to die but mostly when it first starts up. At higher rpms its not there. Do you think its my clutch? Sounds like someone is taking a hammer and hitting a pot. Thanks in advance.

Have you looked under the seat to see if you can spot anything unusual while it's knocking ? Behind the F/R lever is a yellow plastic cam, rotate it 180 degrees. This disables the drive and allows you to start and run the engine without moving. In this condition you can check the actions of the clutches for smooth operation etc. Report back here with your findings and we'll move on from there if necessary.

Chris.

Sounds like the drive clutch Button's. They come in a kit for about 15-20 bucks. I had to replace them on my 94 CC Carryall

Thanks for the replies. I ran my cart in main mode and the sound is coming from the drive clutch(the one nearest to the gas tank) I'm planning on taking it apart tomorrow. What should I look for?

I hope you have a drive clutch puller!
As TB said, most likely you have worn "Buttons" and a worn or broken button spring... and check the Thrust washer for wear also!

Cart Parts Plus has them all in stock

Note: Don't lubricate any parts in it, it was designed to operate "dry"!
