I was kinda thinking the same thing. Time to start shopping. I would like to do the controller at the same time. I just need to sway the head of finance.

Does anyone have an opinion on the Trojan 8 volt Black box batteries? 160 AH versus the T875 170 AH.

Brian, where did you get the battery hold down and rods from? and the US batteries?

Thanks
Even thought my cart is a Yamaha, my local Corpus Christi EZGo cart dealer was the local distributor for US Batteries. I got the contact info and battery price price via a google search for US batt. The dealer took my old 12v and didn't charge an extra exchange fee for only dropping off 4 12v since they were larger; 48v for 48v. Holddown and rods came from the same dealer who also services club cars so had parts. Had to trial and error the rods for the right length. The stainless fender washers and nuts (pc term apparently now is "threaded fasteners) and good to go. Oh, also bought a lifting strap. Them batteries are heavy and awkward to lift in and out of the cart.

Thanks.
I ordered a new wire set, 4ga, for the 6-8V, and a hold down and rods.
I hope they are going to be long enough, but will figure it out. I will know tonight if the batteries are bad. I found a US battery distributor to get the new ones. I believe they compair to the trojan T890. Can't spend the money on the Alltrax just yet, had to put a new transfer case in my Silverado, ouch.

I think I saved my batteries for now, at least the meter shows full charge. I didn't check the voltage, but so far so good.

Looks like I may be able to squeek the Alltrax and batteries next spring, if the batteries last this season.

May not want to rely on the meter. Hydrometer is best check and resting digital volt meter voltage on each battery is next best. DVM is great tool to monitor the batteries when using the cart.

Load testing is the true test. Sulphated batteries can read just about full voltage and still not be able to deliver any significant power to the motor.

4X12 usually has fewer Amp Hours so you get less range. 6X8 gives you more Amp Hours - and weight.

All these flooded lead acid batteries are made up of however many 2 volt cells it takes to get to the battery voltage. In an eight volt, this is 4 cells, in a twelve volt, it's 6 cells.

To get 6 cells inside a 12v of the same case as a a 4 cell 8 volt, they have to make the cells smaller. Doing so makes the plates smaller, there by reducing the amp hour capacity of the 12v battery.

In my case I don't need to test them. I know they are on they're way out, just trying to buy some time. Would love to replace my controller at the same time, so I need the money tree to grow a bit more.
