1984 Club Car Build
I acquired a 1984 Club Car DS, I'm looking to spend some time fixing it up with my kids as a project. Main goals, have fun with the kids, give them something to cruise around the neighborhood on, and occasionally take it out to the golf course.
I attached some pictures of the car in its original state, I have it torn down to repaint the body. While it's torn apart I figure now may be a good time to make some modification. Let me know if what i'm hoping to do is too much for this old cart. 1. Install a backseat, I think this will be key to allow more seating to take around the neighborhood. ** I have heard I will probably need heavy duty rear leaf springs to support this. 2. I would like to install a lift, I just think it looks cool, and I believe it helps with speed. Will the backseat and lift work on this cart? Re: 1984 Club Car Build
Looks similar to how mine started out (but yours is much cleaner!). I did the lift and the back seat (you can see it in my avatar) and am totally happy with it. I kept the stock leaf springs and they are just fine (the reports back on the HD leafs always seem to say they ride way to rough). My best advice is to use a Site Sponsor for your needs (don't learn the hard way like I did!).

Thank you! I took it to an upholstery buddy and had him work his magic :)

Update
In waiting for a new charger I got impatient and decided to pull the cart apart and paint it. Several weeks, some fiberglass repair, bondo, lots of sanding and paint later I think it looks pretty good for my first time painting anything with an air gun. PXL_20220701_230700360.MP.jpg I also have installed heavy duty dual action leaf springs to prep for the rear seat. I'm hoping to get everything put back together this weekend. One question, what lights would be good for the year of club car I have. I bought some lights that should fit my cart, but holding the template against the body I don't think it will fit. |

This is an ‘85 and have single post led lights mounted. Beats cutting into the fiberglass.

Re: 1984 Club Car Build
You just need to trim the bezels a bit to get the lights to fit an early body. No biggie, just install per instructions and once they are in their holes, you will see where they need material removed. Tip: an electric planer works slick for trimming the outside edge of the bezels nice and straight without removing too much material in one pass.
