89 club car, good deal and good for off road mods?
I found a very nice condition 89 CC. it seems to run perfect and has been definitly stored inside. It is green w headlights and a radio.
Anyway, I can get it for $1750. Is this a good place to start for making a more rugged off road buggy? by off road I just mean driving around our pastures, down the gravel drive in the woods on some hilly trails, that sort of thI'm thinking of a lift kit w/ some off road tires. will it have enough stock power to drive around, or is there a better model I should be looking at for my needs? thanks for any help. I'm new at this. |

I'm doing exactly what you described to an '87 Club Car, which has the same motor as that '89. These carts have an 8hp KF82 motor and for me it's enough power. I haven't yet lifted it or put larger tires on it, I'm hoping it still moves well with the larger tires. I think it will. That cart sounds like a decent deal if its in really good shape.

Good. I bought it and have been driving around the farm. I think it was worth what I paid. It has a nice stereo installed and from the looks was taken very good care of. It would be nice to have some larger tires for comfort and for greater clearance.
It will go exactly 11mph. I dont' know if anything has been moded on the governor but it all looks stock. I'd like it to go a little faster. Keep me posted on what mods you do and any good deals on accessories you come across. On my list first will be some larger tires for greater clearance and a little more speed with some mods to the governer. |

Check out this thread if you want to gain a little speed. The instructions (and warnings) are given by another member and I expanded on it by adding pics (see post 36 and later). When I adjusted mine I made the rod almost as long as it could be and it was too fast, I actually ended up shortening it to get the speed I wanted.
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-c...djustment.html Your '89 Club Car linkage should look exactly like my pics. I think the newer carts ('92+) may look the same too but I'm not sure. Let me know how it works for you if you try it. |

Re: 89 club car, good deal and good for off road mods?
thanks! I'll try the adjustment. I don't want too much speed either as my place is pretty bumpy, but on the driveway it'd be fun to get some speed.
have you found a good place to get some nice wheels/tires. I'd like to find something cheaper than the usual $100+ each for 10" tires/wheels. I mainly want something for clearance and comfort, don't care so much about looks so I don't want any fancy low profile tires. Any other cool mods you think of let me know. |

I'm going to use my stock 8" wheels and probably go with 22" diameter tires. I'm thinking a 3-4" lift will get me there.

that's a good idea. I like the wheels on my CC, they are nice looking poilshed wheels. And w/ the 8" wheel it leaved more room for rubber which seems like it would be a more squishy ride, which is what i want. any idea if you lose anything by not using 10" wheels?

Re: 89 club car, good deal and good for off road mods?
I would think that a 10" wheel wouldn't be too bad. If I did get wheels I wouldn't go any bigger than 10". I guess I'm old school. I prefer more tire, less wheel. I'm just going to re-paint my old wheels and re-use them.
This is the basic look I'm going for. Minus the roof and the mold. This cart has 22x11.50x8s on the stock 8" wheels. |

Re: 89 club car, good deal and good for off road mods?
yeah, that's descent clearance. Is that your cart? If so, it looks like a good place to start for a nice buggy. Here's what I'm starting with. I think the wheels are stock, but they are polished w/ black accents so I wouldn't mind re-using them. I think they would look descent w/ some 22" tires, not sure what those stock tires are but they are too low & smooth for my place. One question I have is on the lift kits. I do want to lift it becuase we also have a lot of rocks and brush. I've seen the A-arm kits and the spindle kits are a little cheaper. What's the adavantage of the A-arm kit? Other than they look a little cooler I think. last question about bigger tires, will I have enough power w/ my stock setup if I go w/ 22" tires? Will I need to have the clutch machined like some say on here? |
