Default G1 source coil - gotta find one ... or build one

Hey I have a no spark 1982 G1.

Brown to black on the source coil was open. I pulled it out and even checking right up to the pack... nothing.

I have scoured past threads and these seem tough to come by. Many past links to suppliers are broken, does anyone have any leads on a possible source?

Anyone out there re-wound one of these? What gauge wire would they be?

Anything might help!

Thanks!

Welp, I am working a lead on some donor carts, while I wait, I thought "what the heck Imma try to rewind this thing myself".

There is no way in heck the old wraps would come off nicely... the epoxy / lacquer they are set in is bulletproof... so much for counting wraps! Plus I guess there is about 2000 or so wraps and I can't count that high anyways... I also don't know for sure the gauge, but it is small guessing AWG36 or 40.

I ordered AWG36, I figure some 850 feet will put me in the 350ohm range, and hopefully with a similar gauge we will see good voltage getting thrown!? After all it is just wires and magnets... right?

I will let you know when I'm fried.

Ok, that is maybe an option! I see rickystator and rm stator you referenced before. I'm up in Canada, any users here know of a place up here?

I wonder if there is a risk to giving it a go before sending it off to them, I expect they just use the metal core!?

Thanks for the help!

Ok, I will follow up with a more thorough write up to maybe help others, but I can confirm that I did successfully rewind the coil.

36 AWG enameled wire
~840 ft of wire on the stator

Ran a few hours so far with the rewound coil seems all good!

Cheers!
