Default Overcharging Problem Generator or Regulator??

Guys,
I noticed when I finished wiring my radio that when I started the engine and gave it a little gas the radio would shut off. So I decided to check to see what was going on. With the engine just a little above an idle it is perfect around 13.5 volts but as you give it more throttle the voltage will climb over 17. With the engine running and generator unhooked it will run around 12 to 12.2 volts. The battery voltage is around 12.5 by itself. The regulator is new, but could it just be bad? I have checked the wiring and everything is clean and shows to be hooked up correctly. I checked the green wire that goes from DF on the generator to the regulator to see if it was grounded and it also seems fine. I am assuming that since the generator is charging that it is working. Do I need to just order another regulator or look somewhere else?

Thanks in advance
Carlo

Yep gen is good! It only does what the regulator tells it to do.

17 volts will kill your battery
