Re: 1977 EZGO 2 stroke
Thanks Cart Around. These are the photos of the engine on my accident buy of a 1988 EZGO golf cart.
It is missing the drive clutch. It came with it but in parts in a basket. I will try to start it this weekend. Is there a place to download a manual that anyone knows of. I also plan to look at the other cart to check out the suggestions made by others. Nothing like two projects at once. I want to decide which one to put the energy in first. Thanks again for all the help to all who have commented, i will keep information posted hoping to learn more. |

Re: 1977 EZGO 2 stroke
It's definitely an 88. It has the good exhaust, and the bigger BV-24 carburetor. That gives you 11 horsepower instead of 9.
I see that somebody has already removed the oiler, and plugged the intake hole. That's a good thing. The 88 also has electronic ignition instead of the points, and condenser that the 77 has. It also has the external starter/generator. If it was me, I wouldn't bother with the 77. But hey, maybe it's in really great shape. Only you can make that call. You can use this manual for most of your stuff. The 88 has an extra microswitch in the FnR switch. It has a bigger carburetor, and different muffler. It also has a plastic nose. If you look at page K-1 of the manual, you will see that part of your drive clutch is still installed. They didn't remove the entire assembly. They actually took the clutch apart. The pulley is the front sheave of the clutch. |

Thanks Cart Around
I live on the PA side of the Pa/Ohio border. Beaver County. The comment on the oiler is great. I read where they didn't work properly all the time. My question is since not using the oiler what amount of two stroke oil should be used per gallon of gas. The 1977 one calls for 128/1 ratio. Thanks for the information and the manual. |

Exact same ratio. One ounce of oil per gallon of gas.
I lived in New Sewickley Township for 8 years. That was 20 years ago. |

Re: 1977 EZGO 2 stroke
My son and I worked on the 1977 today. The main reason we picked this one since it was running.
The crank had no play and the compression was 125 in each direction. Upon retaking the flywheel off the bracket holding the points was not sitting properly in the tabs that hold it. We filed the bracket and made it fit flat and able to adjust easily. Then reset the points and timing. That solved the problem and the cart took off in both directions. Runs great in both forward and reverse. Now on to redoing the other parts of the cart to improve it's looks. Thanks again to all the comments and suggestions. After this cart is done I think I will attack the 1988 one next. |

Re: 1977 EZGO 2 stroke
I wanted to post up a few pictures of the progress on the '77 since it is nearing completion now.
It started off rough: We got it cleaned up and covered in primer. |

Re: 1977 EZGO 2 stroke
The gas pickup tube was just jammed into the tank with enough wraps of teflon tape to hold it steady. I made a brass insert to glue in so the pickup tube was secure and removable.
A little paint and some headlights. The upholstery and wheels were brought into this decade. Club Car DS 85 also got a utility bed from a side by side that we are installing. Hopefully the next post is a finished project. |
