Normally "Closed" Micro Switch?
Decided to rewire and go HEI on a recently purchased gas cart. This is due to the battery going dead within 15-minutes or so during run time, misc wiring hacks (cart start with toggle switch, no key, etc.), and eventually no spark.
Still working on finding the exact year of my cart (thinking '90-'96). However, the attached schematic is the closest I have found. Upon assessment of components in the electrical system I find that the micro switch operated by the gas pedal is normally "closed." I.e. hit the gas pedal and it opens. Has anyone run across this before? Am I missing something? Thanks. |

In the thread above two experienced EZGO members have answered your question. I believe. |

Re: Normally "Closed" Micro Switch?
Are you leaving the toggle switch on once cart is running? The carts solenoid is continuous duty so if the switch isn't engaged while it's running it will disengage your solenoid and not charge there is a thread on here about the hei conversion on the Robin four stroke with minium success

Re: Normally "Closed" Micro Switch?
That other thread is about electric carts. They are not like gas carts.
Just looking at the above diagram, the answer is no, it is not normally closed. Speaking from experience on 2 stroke carts, the answer is again, no. The whole purpose of the key, pedal, and neutral limit switches is to activate the solenoid. To do that, they have to provide power to the small terminals on the solenoid, which then powers the electromagnet. Since those three switches are connected in series, they all have to be closed at the same time to power the solenoid. Open up any one of those three switches, and the cart dies. It would make absolutely no sense to have the pedal switch normally closed. All three of your microswitches should be identical to each other. The reverse buzzer switch in the above diagram only makes contact while in reverse. It draws power from the same place, but does not affect operation. It's in parallel with the other switches. One more thing. There are some replacement switches with 3 terminals. They can be wired normally open, or normally closed. Do you have one of those? |

Read your post several times. The cart came to us with the key bypassed and the toggle put in place. Upon flipping the toggle, the cart would "idle". The toggle would be left on. Worked for a several weeks but then the battery issues surfaced. That said, you need the complete circuit constantly energized, correct? I have removed the toggle and gone back to the key. Ideally, I would like to have the system as close to factory (schematically) as possible. Thanks. |

Cart around...
"I do not advocate buying parts until confirming that the old ones are bad" I really need to get better about following your rule. Thanks. |

I don't care for idling. These carts were not designed for that. |
