How hot should a series motor get?
I replaced my wires today with 4g.... wow what a difference. After I took it climbing hills and riding around I touched the motor. She was hot. Is this normal. It seems to run great. About 17-20mph depending on the grade and will climb like crazy. Thanks. I think ya'll already know, but it is an 87 series(resistor) club car with solenoids.

Re: How hot should a series motor get?
I have run my 91' CC around pretty hard in the past and the motor gets pretty hot to the touch but never had any problems. I would assume that the windings in the motors after being stressed would get pretty warm.
I'm in the process of upgrading my CC from 36v to 48v with 4 AWG and I have read many, many times that these motors can handle that just fine. Not sure if that helps or not but I'm sure that someone else will chime in. |

Re: How hot should a series motor get?
I think they get pretty hot. I know its not a CC, But I have a 1980 Commutta car. The motor gets hot enough that it comes with a blower and cage that channels the heat, in the winter, into the car for a heat source to warm the interior. It also has a thermometer on it and it shows on the dash how warm it is. In the summer you channel the heat to the outside with the blower or the motor will overheat. By the way these cars are nothing but a golf cart with a body on them.

Re: How hot should a series motor get?
Thanks guys. It seems to run too good not to be normal. Just needed to hear it from someone else to put my mind at ease.
