Default State of Charge meter reads high

I have just got a State-of-Charge meter, like the one in the picture, and hooked it up to test it. It is reading high (it is showing the charge to be in the white CHG area when the batteries were at 49.9V or 50.1V - as measured with two multimeters).

I am planning to put a shunt resistor across the terminals so that it reads correctly. To save me too much experimentation with resistors, has anyone had this problem before (I have read somewhere that these meters may or may not read correctly on later carts). My cart is a 2012 48V Precedent (6x8v) and the meter is a 48V meter (and marked as such). The markings on the back of the meter are 48V 515 C&B. The picture is from Red Hawk but the meter may not be (I don't know), it came from Just Golf Carts on eBay (from Maryland).

Those meters are unreliable. No two read the same. I put one my 36v. cart. Never could tell what my pack status really was. Get a digital meter now or a year later I like did.

Thanks Tag50. I suspect you are right but I like the look of the old analogue meter. I will persevere but, as you say, I might need to revert to a digital to get something useful.

I understand. I got the analog hoping the wife would relate to it like the gas gauge in her car. Fail. About the most you can do is take readings with a DVM at the F, half and E marks to get feel for the gauge.

You could explain to your wife that E is the same as a credit card limit,,,

dont mess around with a analogy style meter. no need to do damage to batteries from a inaccurate meter.
